Following its own statements, the Calwer-Eck-Br\u00e4u<\/a>, which was founded in 1987, is the smallest brewery in Stuttgart. For sure, it is one of the first brew pubs in Germany, and definitely the first brew pub in Stuttgart. In the immediate vicinity of the pedestrian zone, the brew pub can be reached easily by city strollers \u2013 for the foreign visitor however, who dares to take the adventure of reaching Stuttgart city centre by car, it is almost unreachable.<\/p>\n\n\n

The small restaurant area provides a nice and cosy pub atmosphere \u2013there are a small wooden bar and rustic wooden tables. In an adjoining room, brightly lit by large, angled skylights, we can find the small brewing installation. It has an interesting design, with wooden panelling on the brewing vessels and storage tanks, thus providing a neat alternative to the otherwise ubiquitous coppers.<\/p>\n\n\n

When I was visiting the Calwer-Eck-Br\u00e4u<\/a> on 11th<\/sup> March 2008, I unfortunately used my car and was consequently forced to restrict myself to only a tiny sip of one of the beers. Too bad, because the cosy atmosphere was really inviting to spend some more time here.<\/p>\n\n\n

The friendly staff quickly served a \u201cdark beer\u201d, claiming to be a \u201cFrisian bitter and Swabian dark\u201d. Unfortunately, it was served slightly too warm, but apart from that it was very tasty \u2013 a palatable, sweet start, on the tongue rather round and aromatic, and finally a strong, bitter aftertaste \u2013 a chocolaty aroma accompanying this taste, developing from milk to dark chocolate, so to speak. Interesting! Quite extraordinary, indeed! I must come back here again, sometime!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
