When you enter the wide open terrace on a sunny day, the first thing you see is the small brewing plant – an unusual combination of copper and steel installations, attractively presented behind a low brick wall, and with a rated brewing capacity of about eight hectolitres. Beside and behind the brewing vessels, a large, comfortable guest room opens up, and of course you can also sit on the terrace under the large umbrellas in the front of the building – enjoying your beer and watching the people strolling along.

the small brewing plant

Four varieties of beer have been on tap, when we visited the brewpub on 22nd May 2011; however, we only tasted two of them: A pale, slightly sour and refreshing Blanche with about 4.7% alcohol, and an aromatic, fruity and tart Ambrée with 6.2%. Both were interesting and tasty – very drinkable. Unfortunately, for some reason we missed to recognize that we could have tasted all four beers in small degustation jars of about 125 ml; and since we had to restrict our consumption, we more or less “missed” the Blonde and the Brune.

a cosy interior

Luckily, we could at least take the offer to buy some small 0.33-litre-bottles of some other interesting beers, and later that evening, when we had finally arrived at our hotel, we could enjoy these: the Bière de Garde (“La Lilloise”), 6.1%, with a pleasant, fruity taste; a beer, which is fermented with maple syrup (“La Belle Province”), 7.0%, with a slightly metallic, mouth coating flavour; and finally a triple (“La Triple”), 7.9%. From our perspective, the last one was the best out of this trio: bright orange colour, with a firm, creamy and infinitely long-lasting foam, pleasant fruity notes in the nose, with apricot and mango, and on the tongue quite complex, but without being too heavy. Only a slightly broad bitterness could be felt, but did not disturb the overall sensations.

bottles for take-away

Taking into account the nice atmosphere, the friendly service and the beautiful location in the pedestrian zone, one can state that it is not only the interesting range of beers that makes Les 3 Brasseurs Reims certainly worth a visit.
