I’ve read your latest post.
Yes, the beer judging sheet used in most contests doesn’t include the entry for drinkability.
In my opinion, the definition of the drinkability is ambiguous and it depends on the subjective evaluation of the judges in general.
We recommends the judges for the competitions held in Japan to include such subjective opinion in the category named “Overall impression”, which does not depend on the beer styles,
and also to describe the concrete comments including “drinkability” on the sheet.
Hello, Tetsuya, good afternoon and happy new year (it is not too late for new year wishes, isn’t it?),
thank you very much for your feedback. I completely agree with your opinion that “drinkability” is subject to an individual’s own perception and highly subjective, and that it has to be included in the “comments” or “overall” section of an evaluation sheet.
Just one more question: Do you actively encourage judges in Japan to make remarks on “drinkability” or do you leave it rather to their individual approach, what they want to mention in the “comments” or “overall” section?
With best regards,
Volker
