Update 19th March 2011: For us, this re-visit took place today, on 19th March 2011.

We found the same three beers on offer again; so probably, there are not too many seasonals. As an additional experience, we could find a seat in the upper floor this time – the area that was inaccessible for us during our last visit. The shiny Sahm brewing vessels at the end of the room are attractive and look cared for and tidy. Six fermentation and storage vessels made from stainless steel sit right next to the brewery and make the installation complete.

“Brewery, Restaurant, and Hotel – a Sea of Possibilities” – this is what the brewpub’s website claims. We visited the brewery “Brovaria” on 4th September 2010.

The brewery is located immediately at the Old Market (“Stary Rynek”) in the historical centre of Poznań, just a few meters away from the famous Town Hall. In and in front of two buildings, the visitor finds a modern bar, an elegant restaurant, some rooms in brick vaults as traditional beer cellars, and finally, on the market, a nice beer garden, protected with umbrellas, and heated with gas burners.

The brewing vessels are located upstairs at the rear end of a big hall. Unfortunately, due to a wedding ceremony, the area was not accessible; so we could only throw a quick glance through the open door, when we passed by. I could see some polished copper, but the unobserved moment lasted too short to take a picture …

only a quick glance …

Today, in late summer, there were three different types of beer on offer: An aromatic and quite bitter Pilsner that certainly could have deserved a longer maturation and lagering period. Second, a fruity and full-flavoured wheat beer with a distinct caraway aroma; and finally, following typically Polish habits, a honey beer called “Miodowe”. However, this one did not taste too much honey like, but more like a somewhat too fruity Märzen style beer. Tasty, anyway.

The customer can order a beer taster, and he will get a 200 ml glass of each of the three beers, served on a wooden bar for degustation.

There is an interesting menu with a series of rustic, but well prepared, typical brewery food – hearty and spicy seasoned. Further, fish, salads, and delicious desserts are on offer.

For sure, the brewpub has a nice ambience and is worth a visit again.
